Hi Callide Valley Crop Farmers.
it’s great to see so many decent looking crops around the area. A bit of timely rain makes for an optimistic outlook.
A reminder that the 2026 Callide Valley Field Crop Competition, in association with the Callide Valley Show, is now open for entries.
This competition showcases the importance and diversity of the cropping industry in the area and contributes to increased awareness and recognition by the general public, of the value of Agriculture to the overall economy. It also facilitates a degree of friendly rivalry among farmers, which can result in improved cropping outcomes,
Competition details and an entry form are attached for your convenience.
I would also like to draw your attention to a new feature being planned for the 2026 Callide Valley Show. We are planning to have a Giant Pumpkin Competition, where we will be setting a challenge between ‘backyard gardeners’ and ‘farmers’ to see who can produce the heaviest pumpkin. We will also have other classes, including the smallest pumpkin, the biggest table variety pumpkin, the most unusual, shaped pumpkin, the best decorated pumpkin, with classes for juveniles, adults, groups, farmers, backyard gardeners etc.
With the 2026 show being held Mid-May 2026, it will be necessary to get pumpkins planted in early January to mature in time for the show. In the meantime, google has lots of tips & tricks for growing giant pumpkins.
We will be providing updates on the feature later in the year.
Looking forward to a strong agricultural focus for the Callide Valley Agricultural & Pastoral Society’s 2026 Annual Show.
Best regards
